Our day starts at the home of the Royal Family for 900 years: Windsor Castle - the largest and oldest occupied Castle in the world. Its proud, strong walls dominate the delightful town that has grown around the castle over the years. You get a real sense of British history breathing through the walls of Windsor Castle, first founded by William the Conqueror a day's march from London. You'll see the lavishly decorated State Apartments* containing priceless furniture in glorious colours and St George's Chapel , home to the 14 th Century Order of the Royal Garter, our senior chivalric order. You'll also see the Windsor Changing of the Guard in all its colourful pageantry and splendour - don't forget your camera!**
Going even further back into the mists of time we make our way West through rolling green Wiltshire landscape to Stonehenge, a collection of stones dragged 5000 years ago to this lonely windy plain near Salisbury. Who built it? Why? These questions have haunted the minds of centuries of scholars, but what we do know is that Stonehenge must have had some astronomical function. Set in a landscape dotted with prehistoric mounds and carvings, Stonehenge continues to enthrall the imagination and captivate the heart of every visitor.
On to Bath, the jewel of the West Country and a City famous for its elegant Georgian architecture and greenery. During the panoramic tour of Bath you will be enchanted by its beautifully proportioned streetscapes and lovingly cultivated flowerbeds that are a feast to the eye at every turn. You'll see the 'lantern of the West' Bath Abbey, the often-photographed Pulteney Bridge, modelled on the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, and the Georgian Crescents that helped make Bath so famous. During the tour we'll visit the Roman Baths that made the City famous, the best preserved Roman spa from the ancient world stunningly restored during the Victorian era.
*On rare occasions the State Apartments may be closed – It shall be replaced by a visit to see Queens Mary's doll collection.
**At certain times during the summer there may not be a Changing of the Guard
