TOUR 5- Evening Tour
JACK THE RIPPER'S SINISTER LONDON
1888 : the first Sherlock Holmes story by Arthur Conan Doyle has just been published, the first cheap Kodak cameras are in the shops, the first trams are running and electric lighting is starting to make the streets safer at night – or so they thought in the crowded, poverty-stricken East End of London. All of a sudden terror grips the population of Whitechapel, a short distance from the City of London and yet a world away. Five women are butchered in the most grotesque fashion by the world's first recognised serial killer, Jack the Ripper. We re-trace the footsteps of this infamous and surely deranged lunatic through narrow alleyways, derelict corners and Victorian pubs following a trail that some experts say leads to Queen Victoria herself! Your professional Blue Badge Guide will talk you through the suspects that sparked the biggest Whodunit of its time – you'll be as gripped as the Ripper's victims! You'll also get the chance to see parts of London in the shadow of the financial district that have barely changed since Victorian times, with long-forgotten streets, secret squares, and quiet corners where time stands still.
* Round off the evening with a delicious fish and chip supper in a lovely traditional London pub surrounded by Victorian style decorations and furniture. Comfortable walking shoes and a strong stomach recommended!
* Meal not included
